The Folkestone Townscape Heritage Initiative has teamed up with School History Workshops to bring you this terrific town treasure trail, introducing you and your pupils to the history of Folkestone’s Old Town and some of the famous people who lived there.
Explore Folkestone On Foot consists of three walks through the THI area. Leaflets are available to download in English and French.
A new set of walks is to be funded by the THI. The Pent Up walks booklet is being produced in cooperation with the Folkestone Fringe. The name is derived from the walks around the town focusing on areas uphill from the culverted River Pent that runs underneath Tontine Street and exits into to the harbour.
Andy Linklater (Canterbury Archaeological Trust) and local historian Eamonn Rooney regularly lead relaxed strolls around the historic centre of Folkestone. Learn how to recognise and understand the town’s surviving historic buildings, and find out more about the town’s history on these informative walks.
